What Is Expo 2025 Osaka?
Expo 2025 Osaka, officially known as the 2025 World Exposition, was held on Yumeshima Island in Osaka Bay from April 13 to October 13, 2025. With the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives,” it welcomed pavilions from over 160 countries and organizations — making it one of the largest World Expos in history.
In this post, I cover everything from a jaw-dropping LED installation in Luxembourg to sand-brewed coffee in Tunisia — some of the most memorable Expo 2025 Osaka pavilions I visited across the entire series.
My Goal: Review Every Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka
Over the course of multiple visits to Expo 2025 Osaka, I set myself a challenge — to visit and review every pavilion on the grounds. With over 160 countries and organizations represented, it was no small feat. But armed with a season pass and a genuine curiosity for what each country had to offer, I made it my mission.
This is Visit 4 (May 11). Catch up on the series here:
👉 Visit 1 — First Night as a Skeptic
👉 Visit 2 — 15 Countries in One Day
👉 Visit 3 — The UN, 25 Nations & a Calligraphy Show
A Note on Crowds — 99,000 Visitors Today
With 99,000 visitors on the grounds, May 11 was busy but manageable. Arriving at 11:00 through the East Gate gave me a head start before the afternoon peak. As always at Expo 2025 Osaka, the key to a great day was choosing pavilions strategically — and today’s choices paid off handsomely.
💡 Tip: Arriving before noon on days approaching 100,000 visitors gives you a significant advantage — most visitors arrive after lunch, so morning slots at popular pavilions are noticeably quieter.
Commons C 🌍 — Six Nations, One Space
The day began at Commons C, another shared pavilion showcasing nations that might not have the budget for a standalone space — but more than make up for it in character. Today’s lineup:
🇲🇪 Montenegro — Stunning ocean imagery paired with copper craftsmanship displays, reflecting the country’s coastal heritage and artisan tradition.
🇵🇦 Panama — A tropical feast for the eyes. Lush natural landscapes, vibrant wildlife including colorful birds, and the kind of warmth that makes you want to book a flight immediately.
🇸🇰 Slovakia — Rich natural scenery brought to life through video, alongside traditional woven textiles. A castle-like monument reminded visitors that Slovakia offers far more than its football reputation suggests.
🇬🇹 Guatemala | 🇸🇲 San Marino | 🇬🇦 Gabon | 🇭🇷 Croatia
💡 Tip: Commons pavilions are among the most underrated things to do at Expo 2025 Osaka — smaller queues, genuine cultural variety, and always a surprise or two waiting inside.
Tunisia 🇹🇳 — Sand Coffee, Pottery Wheels and Master Craftsmen
Tunisia delivered one of the most hands-on and memorable Expo 2025 Osaka experiences of the day. The pavilion opened with a display of traditional woven textiles, setting a warm artisanal tone that carried through the entire visit.
The standout moment: a live demonstration of coffee brewed in hot sand — a uniquely Tunisian technique that drew a crowd of fascinated onlookers. Watching the coffee slowly heat through the sand was mesmerizing, and the result was as good as the theater surrounding it.
Near the exit, a craftsman used a tiny chisel and hammer to engrave intricate patterns onto metalwork in real time — each piece entirely unique. A VIP lounge area added a touch of elegance, and the parting message by the exit — “Take care, and we hope to see you again in Tunisia” — was a genuinely warm send-off.
💡 Tip: The sand-brewed coffee demonstration is one of the most unique Expo 2025 Osaka food experiences available — time your visit to catch it live.
Algeria 🇩🇿 — Young, Bold and Proud
Algeria’s pavilion opened with a confident message: “Algeria is a young nation.” The energy inside matched that declaration. Projection mapping brought Algeria’s landscapes, culture and people to vivid life across the walls — a dynamic and engaging introduction to a country often overlooked on the international stage.
💡 Tip: Algeria’s pavilion is short but impactful — a great quick stop between larger exhibits.
Luxembourg 🇱🇺 — The Most Impressive Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka
If there is one pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka that justifies a full hour of your time, it is Luxembourg’s. The investment on display was immediately apparent — from the moment you entered, every detail spoke of ambition and craftsmanship.
The centerpiece was the “Idea World Lab” — a towering sphere constructed from dozens of interlocking screens, displaying Luxembourg’s story in a format unlike anything else at the Expo. The sheer scale and visual impact made it one of the best pavilions at Expo 2025 Osaka by a significant margin.
Further inside, projectors above and below cast images onto a net suspended in between — creating a fully immersive space where every surface became a screen. Children were absolutely captivated, and honestly, so was I. The pavilion covered science, technology, healthcare, and industry with equal depth and care.
💡 Tip: Set aside at least 60 minutes for Luxembourg — rushing through it would mean missing the best parts. Arguably the single most impressive pavilion in the entire Expo 2025 Osaka pavilions review series.
Oman 🇴🇲 — Earth, People and Water
Oman’s pavilion — part of the Commons area — offered a beautifully atmospheric experience. Projection mapping explored the themes of land, people and water through the lens of Arabian culture, creating an immersive and meditative atmosphere.
Outside, soap bubbles drifted through the air as gentle ambiance — a small but charming touch. A café, souvenir shop, floral displays and traditional board games rounded out an experience that was as relaxing as it was culturally rich.
💡 Tip: The outdoor area at Oman is one of the most pleasant spots to take a break at Expo 2025 Osaka — worth lingering at even if you skip the interior.
Mozambique 🇲🇿 — The Most Welcoming Staff at Expo
Mozambique’s pavilion may have been modest in scale, but it left one of the strongest impressions of the day. The reason: the staff member stationed at the entrance was, simply put, magnetic. Radiating energy, warmth and joy, they drew every passing visitor in with effortless charm.
It was a reminder that at Expo 2025 Osaka, sometimes the most memorable moments come not from the exhibits, but from the people behind them.
💡 Tip: Don’t walk past Mozambique — stop and say hello. You won’t regret it.
Malaysia Stage 🇲🇾 — Live Culture in the Open Air
Passing by the Malaysia outdoor stage, I caught part of a live cultural performance — a spontaneous reminder that Expo 2025 Osaka is as much about what happens between pavilions as inside them. Free, accessible, and a genuine slice of Malaysian culture under the open sky.
💡 Tip: Check the daily outdoor stage schedules — live performances are free and one of the best things to do at Expo 2025 Osaka between pavilion visits.
Earth Pavilion (Night) 🌏 — Traditional Lacquerware in a Quiet Space
The Earth Pavilion offered a calmer, more contemplative experience — a welcome contrast to the sensory intensity of larger pavilions. The focus was on traditional lacquerware (漆塗り), with beautifully crafted pieces displayed with the care they deserved. For anyone interested in Japanese craft traditions, this was a quiet highlight.
💡 Tip: Visit the Earth Pavilion when you need a moment of calm — the lacquerware exhibition rewards slow, attentive viewing.
Poland 🇵🇱 — More Than Tradition
Poland surprised me. Expecting folk art and traditional performance, I found something considerably broader — a pavilion that balanced cultural heritage with cutting-edge semiconductor technology. Poland’s contribution to modern tech manufacturing was presented with genuine pride, sitting comfortably alongside its rich artistic traditions.
💡 Tip: Poland is one of the more intellectually stimulating Expo 2025 Osaka pavilions — worth visiting if you have an interest in European technology and innovation.
Blue Ocean Dome 🌊 — A Call to Protect Our Oceans
The Blue Ocean Dome delivered one of the most important environmental messages at Expo 2025 Osaka. Water-based installations and immersive exhibits addressed ocean plastic pollution and marine conservation — a topic that felt urgently relevant. Educational without being preachy, and visually stunning throughout.
💡 Tip: The Blue Ocean Dome is one of the most educational things to do at Expo 2025 Osaka for families — the environmental message lands powerfully for visitors of all ages.
Bharat (India) 🇮🇳 — Beyond the Curry
India’s pavilion — presented under the name Bharat — offered far more than the cuisine it is famous for worldwide. Sacred cows featured prominently in the cultural exhibits, alongside rich displays of religion, mythology and tradition. But the real surprise was the forward-looking section: India’s railway innovation and technological ambitions were presented with a confidence that reframed the country’s global identity.
💡 Tip: Give India’s pavilion time — the shift from ancient tradition to modern technology is one of the most interesting narrative arcs in the Expo 2025 Osaka pavilions review series.
United Kingdom 🇬🇧 — Games, Characters and a Well-Earned Whisky
The UK pavilion took a playful approach — a distinctive cast of characters guided visitors through an interactive game-based journey across the pavilion. Skewing younger in tone, it was nonetheless charming and clever in its execution.
The final destination made it unmistakably British: a fully stocked bar serving whisky highballs. After a long day covering the best pavilions at Expo 2025 Osaka, sitting down with a Scotch whisky highball felt like exactly the right ending.
💡 Tip: The UK pavilion bar is one of the best-kept secrets at Expo 2025 Osaka — arrive in the evening and finish your day here with a whisky highball. You’ve earned it.
Is Expo 2025 Osaka Worth Visiting? — Final Thoughts
Visit 4 confirmed what I had been suspecting since Visit 1 — there is no such thing as a bad day at Expo 2025 Osaka. Luxembourg alone would have justified the trip. Tunisia, Oman, Poland and the UK each added something completely different.
With 99,000 visitors on the grounds, the key was moving purposefully and embracing the unexpected. If you are wondering whether Expo 2025 Osaka is worth visiting — four visits in, the answer remains an emphatic yes.
This is Visit 4 in my ongoing series to review every pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. Visit 5 coming soon.
